These Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they moist and simmer for times, but they're unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of those flavors that may get lost once you bake with this. It can be really delicate taste. It always bums me out once that happens, cause I really like the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

When great flavored banana treats come along, we go a little mad for them.

These cookies make the listing of banana things to go mad for. With no doubt.

And they're so moist, they almost melt in your mouth. Plus, with both banana and oats inside them, they are basically healthy, right? And perfect for breakfast!

Making them is just as simple as eating them.

You begin by mixing all of those lovely ingredients together.

I must warn you. The odor of the mixture -- using the banana -- is intoxicating. The hubs was in the kitchen making the dough together with me (we left a bargain that included him carbonated with me) and we both had to work hard not to place our faces, or even a straw, straight in to it.

You then add all the dry ingredients (which means you only use one bowl yay!) And combine it all together!

To bake them, spoon about a tablespoon of dough and create a thick disc, rather than a chunk. They spread somewhat after baking, so don't put them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes to get a fine, moist cookie. So yummy!

1 additional thing I really like about this recipe is where it came from.

My grandma (my dad's mother ) passed out in 2008. Once I started baking a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me her cookbook he'd had didn't use. I've had it on my list to make a number of her desserts ever since.

It was a tradition for my grandma to make them each Christmas! She also gave everyone a huge tin of these, which was quite a feat with 6 sons.

I now know exactly how much of an accomplishment it was! My goodness. She made them using a conventional gaufrette iron that goes over an open flame. My dad and I had them around the cooker. They cook very quickly and you have to be precise. Too little time and they sort of disintegrated to the iron. As long and they burned into the iron and we all had to wash it out.

My father was minding the batter and taking away the biscuits, I had been operating the iron, the hubs was timing things. It took many tries to get it right, but they were so excellent! I have attempted to create them again on my own and it never works. I'd really like to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are so tough to discover. And expensive. At some point, I would like to just earn a cookie with the exact same gaufrette flavor.

For now though, I am sharing these biscuits. I really don't believe I ever had them when she made thembut they're from her novel.

It's such an enjoyable recipe book to check through, also. There are many handwritten pages, clippings and newspaper recipes which were taped into the publication. news I adore the way they used to write recipes at the paper -- they'd the individual who filed it's name and adorable little tales. It is so enjoyable to read ! What another time on the planet!

Anyways, I do not know where this recipe came from. The newspaper looks like it had been on a flier from their square dancing group or something (they were big into square dance ). It's undoubtedly from West Virginia, in which they lived.



Either way, I'm so glad to finally share a recipe out of her novel with you! I made a few adjustments to make them thicker and more puffier and they are delicious. There will be more to come out of her recipe book, but for now like the banana.

Return: 34-36 COOKIES

 


INGREDIENTS:



1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract



1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch



DIRECTIONS:

2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and blend until blended.

3. Stir in oats.

5. Spoon tablespoons of dough on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Flatten dough a little bit, into thick discs. They will spread a bit when boiled.
